The main idea of the project was to create an interesting urban environment that would attract the visitors with an appealing appearance and an environmentally-friendly approach. This way we tried to focus public attention on energy issues and to underline the importance of recycling process and reused materials.
The concept was to use recyclable aluminum cans to make a tree-shaped structure, by putting them together, one on top of the other, and strapping them onto a metal rod, which would be functioning as vertical support. Old glass bottles would be hanging on the “can-trees”, containing a glowing candle. This way we would get street lights that would be completely energy free and able to create a pleasant atmosphere.
Old tires were planned for public seating, which would also be used as green flower pots. The tires would be strapped together and organized in different modules.
This intervention was planned to be set up primarily at the Nikola Pasic square in Belgrade, but could be placed at various sites throughout the city. It could be also used in public gardens and parks (e.g. Kalemegdan Fortress) or within inactive urban pockets which should attract visitors and boost an overall quality of the space.
